Morgan Salsman
LQD Assets, LLC
What do civil engineering and bourbon have in common? More than you’d think — and Morgan Salsman is proof.
Morgan grew up in Bardstown, Kentucky, the Bourbon Capital of the World, where whiskey isn’t just a product — it’s a heritage. She went to the University of Alabama for civil engineering, spent three years on high-profile infrastructure projects, and then made a decision that surprised everyone except herself – she came home to bourbon.
At 21, she made her first barrel investment with $5,000. Today, she’s the founder of LQD Assets, a bourbon barrel investment fund, and BRBN Storage, a whiskey barrel warehouse, and she’s here to walk us through all of it.
This is one of those episodes that manages to be genuinely educational, wildly interesting, and somehow make you want to pour a glass at 10am. We’re not sorry.
In this episode:
✦ How bourbon barrel investing works — and why you don’t have to be wealthy or accredited to participate
✦ What Morgan’s two companies do and how they work together
✦ The stat that stops everyone: there are more bourbon barrels aging in Kentucky than there are people in the state
✦ Flavor profiles and mash bills — the four grains that shape every sip
✦ Why craft bourbon is like a snowflake: no two barrels are ever the same
✦ How tariff wars are affecting the industry right now (and why Morgan’s storage model offers some insulation)
✦ What it’s like to be young and female in two male-dominated industries — and the mindset shift that changed everything
✦ Why knowing your facts is the most powerful negotiation tool she has
Whether you’re a bourbon lover, a curious investor, or just someone who loves a great pivot story, this episode will leave you smarter and maybe a little thirsty. 🥃
